![]() There should be a list of albums that are "10 out of 10", but relatively unknown, for prog fans like me - who tune into AM and we feel like a kid in a candy store. Just show us 10 albums to soak up for a while!
Criteria: 1. Albums that are outside of the mainstream areas (Yes, Genesis, Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, etc.) These can be from any country, any time period, etc. 2. Must be relatively devoid of clunkers, no throwaway tracks. 3. International albums are encouraged (obviously) and last but not least 4. These albums should be your "favorite albums that no one knows about." Go ahead and share! Thanks to the Moon and the Moonies for making all this possible. |

AUFKLARUNG della pesta l'oscuro piacere 1995 Italy , their only CD , sold out, 4 tracks only for around 45 minutes of astounding prog rock, with Chico Grosso ( from Asgard) on lead vocals

Re: 10 of the best uknown prog albums
Well, I can't guarantee that no one knows about these, my favorite lesser known groups, but here's a shot at it.
First band I thought of was Credo - who's nickname is The Best Prog Band no one has heard of. But since many of us saw them at RosFest I decided not to list them in my top fave. But here's a big plug for them. 1) Alas - Alas 2) Bennie Maupin - Penumbra 3) Garaj Mahal - Blueberry Cave 4) Moth Vellum - Moth Vellum 5) Karnataka - Delicate Flame of Desire 6) Iceberg - Coses Nostres & Arc-en-ciel 7) Violent District - Terminal Breath 8) Anima Mundi - Septentrion 9) Talamasca - Rights of Passage 10) Carmen - Fandangos in Space And here are the runner's up: The Flock - The Flock Alex Machacek - Improvisation General Fuzz - Inner Sunset Persephone's Dream - Moonspell Violent Silence - Kinetic Seven Reizh - Strinkadenn Ys I hope this gets the ball rolling.

Agreed. I noticed the criteria never said they had to be prog. ![]() In no particular order and imho ![]() 1.) Bjork - Vespertine (a bit different but great) 2.) Shawn Phillips - Second Contribution (always a good listen) 3.) Loreena McKennitt - An Ancient Muse (Celtic Prog?) 4.) The Doors - Other Voices & Full Circle (both released without Jim Morrison) 5.) Magna Carta - Seasons & Lord of the Ages (more folk rock but some prog numbers)

glad to see some love for Kinetic. I chat with Johan (drummer) every so often and it's hard for them to keep doing music... Finch is one I would add to the list... |

The one record that immediately comes to mind, and I've written to Jim about this was released 20 years earlier than Mailo's pick, and is Goblin's Profondo Rosso. Translates to deep red, as in blood. If you are from Italy you most likely know this but outside the country I suppose less so. Last edited by gr8sho92 : 11-12-2008 at 05:31 AM. |

Re: 10 of the best uknown prog albums
Above I selected already 10 albums but forgotten one incredible album.
It's the untitled album from german band GILA, one of the finest krautrock albums ever made. It's a mainly instrumental trip with cosmic and etnic textures but also with space rock and psychedelic parts. For those who like Pink Floyd's 60's albums and early Hawkwind releases. Very recommanded !! |
