The Fusion Reactor #217 - The Classical Reactor

Yes, there were plenty of directions I could have gone with this. But what we end up with is a bunch of original prog pieces and one "improvised excerpt" done - or at least named - in a classical style. There's quite a bit of fusiony stuff in there as well, you can rest assured.

It should be noted that the Stanley Jordan piece has him playing the piano and the guitar. Simultaneously. I have the DVD, it's for real. Quite impressive!

You'll be treated to my fake British accent introducing the following:

Childrens' Concerto - Moraz and Bruford 5:05
War Suite Concerto - Mattsson 14:02
Improvised Excerpt From Bela Bartok's Concerto For Orchestra, 2nd Movement - Jordan, Stanley 9:53
Lamplight Symphony - Kansas 8:18
Hamburger Concerto - Focus 20:20
The American Advert Concerto - Wakeman, Rick 5:08
Epilogue: Machine Symphony - Farpoint 5:31
Symphony No. 2: First Movement - Egg 20:41

Moses,

Another excellent show laid out.

I am really looking forward to the Focus and Wakeman. And especially I am interesting in hearing the Stanley Jordan - I have a tape of him playing a flute - and only a flute in the Taj Mahal - you can HEAR the echo of the flute - playing in harmony with him... it is amazing.

Thanks again!! I appreciate all you are doing!

Regards from Texas,
Ted

For classical fusion, there's always Adiemus and Michael W. Smith's non-pop, real deal classical fusion album "Freedom."

Re: The Fusion Reactor #217 - The Classical Reactor

I saw Stanley Jordan open up for Bruce Hornsby maybe 20 years ago (wow has it been that long, I need to check on that)...anyway, the venue had a policy of no shows after 11 PM (outdoor). In the middle of a guitar LEAD, someone gave the throat slash signal - apparently, he was over his time alloted to the opener. Stanley finished with a quick run and a nod to his band to stop. No one was paying much attention anyway (unfortunately), I just happened to be close enough yet far enough off to the side to witness it.

Then Hornsby consistently complained that "I would play song x, but I HAVE to be off by 11". I haven't seen either of them back in the Columbia (south of Baltimore) area since...

Stanley Jordan plays the flute too? Someone call the judges, that's too much talent for one man to have. The fact that he can play the guitar and piano simultaneously is too much already.

Rick, that incident reminds me of Neal Morse at the 3RP show looking at his watch after his set... "Oh, we're only an hour over..." No complaints that night!

Opps, I messed up - It was Paul Horn, not Stanley Jordan, Thanks to Marquer for catching that for me. Here is the wiki article about Paul: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Horn_(jazz_musician)

I think I realized my mistake - a friend gave me a cassette with Stanley Clarke on one side and I was thinking it was Stanley Jordan - and it had Paul Horn on the other... I still remember listening to the flute echoing in the Taj Mahal and his playing along with the echo... it was truly amazing.

Sorry for the confusion. Great show so far!! Keep up the GREAT work Moses.

Regards from Texas,
Ted

Re: The Fusion Reactor #217 - The Classical Reactor

Moses,

Another great show... I liked Wakeman's Concerto and Kansas' Symphony. And I liked Focus' Concerto - awesome - brought back good memories. Thank you.

I enjoyed the Stanley Jordan as well - even if I mis-identified him on the first pass.

Have you listened to Niacin? Do you like their Hammond B-3 sound? Sorta reminds me of Return to Forever... I like the energy and sound.
Any way of incorporating some Niacin in a show? I mean - a show about pants - and use "Bootleg Jeans" from the Deep CD, or non-alcoholic drinks and use "Club Soda" from Organik CD... endless possibilities....

Just a suggestion - take it for what it worth - less than 2 cents!!

Have a GREAT day and thanks again for ALL you are doing.

Blessings to you and YOUR family,
Ted

Thanks for the idea! You'll see if I'm into that Niacin sound next week...
