The Fusion Reactor #87 - Themeless and Bible Black

It's a play on words. It references a King Crimson song that is not on the playlist for this show. It refers only to the fact that this show has no theme whatsoever. I picked songs, not quite at random, and then played them. Some were songs I had wanted to play for a while, others were newer songs and bands I just added to my collection, and others just seemed right at the time.

So there's quite a variety. Something for everyone, as they say. I must admit that while themes are fun, this is one of my favorite types of shows. I couldn't really say why that is. But there it is. As of this writing, the playlist is not up yet. Wait for it... When it's up, you'll find it at http://fusionreactor.blogspot.com (but no permalink yet since it's not there to link to).

Secret Oyster

The Laser's Edge is pleased to release, for the first time on CD, the second album from the legendary Danish progressive jazz-rock supergroup Secret Oyster. "Sea Son" was originally released in 1974 on CBS and is now considered by many to be the pinnacle of the band's catalog. The fiery interplay between alto/soprano sax player Karsten Vogel, guitarist Claus Bohling and keyboardist Kenneth Knudsen parallel the work of their contemporaries Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra. With a new rhythm section of bassist Jess Staehr (Burnin Red Ivanhoe) and drummer Ole Streenberg (Coronarias Dans) the band found equal footing in the world of rock and jazz. The track "Mind Movie" offers nine minutes of pure psychedelic guitar driven fury from Bohling. In counterpoint a string quartet appears on "Painforest" presenting a mellower side to the band. Perhaps it's the constant tension between the rock and jazz genres and the band's ability to blend both seamless that is the reason for their success.

With the co-operation of the band, Sea Son features 3 previously unreleased bonus tracks and new liner notes from Karsten Vogel. Noted mastering engineer Bob Katz revitalized the original master tapes.

...and that's more than I knew about them before. Thanks teermin8r!

Rick - What (bible) makes (bible) you (bible) think (bible) I'm (bible) getting (bible) subliminal?
