The Fusion Reactor #176 - The Beat Goes On

This edition of The Fusion Reactor focuses on the all-important beat. Without it, we'd just be listening to soundscapes... not that there's anything wrong with that. But here are a bunch of prog and fusion beats, for your listening and dancing pleasure, followed by an epic tune that kind of defies classification. But it's got plenty of beats.

Beat 70 - Metheny, Pat 5:06
Eurobeat - Counter World Experience 6:18
Buzz Beat - Woodenhead 7:00
Delivering the Groceries at 138 Beats per Minute - Don Caballero 5:49
Beatnicks and Bohemians - Ghosts of Pompeii 3:57
Quick Is The Beat Of My Heart - Styx 3:52
Heartbeat - Hancock, Herbie 4:52
Two Hearts Beat As One - U2 4:04
Heartbeat - Eloy 6:12
Heartbeat - King Crimson 3:55
No Heart Beats - Iona 4:49
Croquette for Electronic Beating Group - National Health 3:52
Beat the Heat - Gamalon 4:32
From A Dead Beat To An Old Greaser - Jethro Tull 4:08
Beat The Drum - Pallas 9:18
Beat The Drum - Mermaid Kiss 6:36
Beat Box Guitar - Belew, Adrian 5:09
The Box - Orbital 28:26

Re: The Fusion Reactor #176 - The Beat Goes On

Moses,

Is that U2 song, "2 Hearts beat as 1" a remake of another song - or did they write it? Something in the back of my mind reminds me that this is a song someone else has done...

Thanks for clarifying for me... (to Moses or any one else...)

Regards from Texas,
Ted

The liner notes to the "War" album proclaim that all the songs were written by U2. Maybe someone else recorded it after them?

Re: The Fusion Reactor #176 - The Beat Goes On

When I read over the set list I didn't notice the U2 cut. Great tune from when I liked the band.

Beat the Heat is awesome. I can still remember Tom Reinhardt doing this little shuffle with his feet while playing the bass line, the onle and only time I caught them.

Adrian Belew's cover of heartbeat on Young Lions is a bit different but also enjoyable.

Some great stuff here...and I'm not at all familiar with Orbital. Have to check it out.

"Delivering the Groceries at 138 BPM" is a rager with a great false ending, and that U2 song? Classic. As for other bands, my guess is there's more than one song with that title.
